This is the beginning of the Layer Styles section. First I've selected the "Drop Shadow" tool. "Drop shadow" is a Layer Style that you can see under the "Layer Styles". You can have a little idea about the drop shadow tool by looking at the image above.
First of all we should know what Layer Styles are.
To open Layer Styles,
- Open Layers tab.
- At the bottom of the layers tab there are 7 icons.
Under the Layer Styles there are ten options.
- Drop Shadow
- Inner Shadow
- Outer Glow
- Inner Glow
- Bevel and Emboss
- Stain
- Color Overlay
- Gradient Overlay
- Pattern Overlay
- Stroke
Now I'll tel you the way to use this option.
First of all open a new document and set the required fields as you wish.
(Note : Set the "Background Content" as White. This will help you to see the Drop Shadow more clearly.)
Now go to Type Tool and type anything you like.
Select the layer that you want to apply a Drop Shadow effect.
Click the Layer Styles icon and select Drop Shadow option.
As a beginner set the "Blend Mode" as Normal.
Change the other details as you wish.
(Note : While changing them you will see the preview.)
Opacity - This will change the opacity of the shadow.
Distance - This will change the distance between the shadow and the object.
Under the Quality section you will see some templates. Check those out.
You can change the color of the shadow.
That's it! Now you can try the second option "Inner Shadow" by yourself.
